Snagging the prize for the cutest couple? Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt kiss their way through the SAG Awards

They are one of the most famous couples in the world.
And though their romance has been very public from the start, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt don't usually indulge in public displays of affection.

So it was a huge surprise when the pair shared a series of tender kisses on the red carpet at last night's Screen Actors Guild awards.

Later, as they sat at a table during the ceremony, it was clear their attention was only for each other.

Brad was seen leaning in towards his partner to share a kiss mid-way through the awards.

And as Angelina looked back to the stage she was seen placing a hand on her partner’s thigh.

At the end of the show the couple were seen sharing another smooch as they stood up from the table and the flashing cameras close by certainly didn’t bother them.

Perhaps the show of affection was a consolation prize for Brad,48, who failed to scoop the Male Actor award which was won by The Artist star Jean DuJardin.
Or it could be that the pair were simply making the most of a night off from parent duty to enjoy a few moments together.

There is also the tantalising possibility that the pair are about to get engaged. In a recent interview, Brad said that he wanted to marry his long-term partner because it meant so much to their six children.

Earlier in the evening the pair arrived on the red carpet and were greeted by pandemonium.

As ever Brad proved the perfect gentleman and stepped out of the car and made his way around the car to open the door for Angelina.

A piazza filled with colours so dramatic, it created a visage of a painter's colour palette spilled with all vivid hues. And as the models walked the ramp in designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil's latest spring-summer collection, the audience was left spellbound by the ultimate fusion of high contrasts with sheen and flowing fabrics for the new season.

The designers were present at Hotel Oberoi this past week to launch their latest collection especially for the food and beverage giant Pepsico's new Lay's ‘baked' chips. Their fashion collection for young women is inspired from the Lay's baked philosophy of “unrestrained fun”. Launching their new line, the designers said, “The collection is inspired by unlimited fun, full of colours, exuding the values that Lay's baked range stands for. It caters to young and hip audience, who are confident, stylish and outgoing - and what better colour palette to symbolise this than green, yellow and red!” The entire collection sends a message to young women to express themselves and not be afraid to show their individuality.

While models were seen wearing essentially short, gleaming and bold dresses, the colours went beyond the frontiers – beginning with basic shimmery gray and beige, passing through silver and gold and finishing with all the colours of the rainbow, turning individualism into a cult. Showstopper for the collection – Sarah Jane Dias, walked the ramp dressed in an asymmetrical yellow short dress with all frills and packets of lays baked chips serving as the only adornment.
Global approach

Taking cue from their design philosophy, Shantanu & Nikhil believe that their designs can be worn by a woman who is global in her approach and likes to carry a little bit of ethnicity in her attire. “The new season is all about light and flowing fabrics like chiffons and satins, paired with beautiful laces and minimal embellishment,” says Nikhil, who suggests long flowing gowns in bright fuchsia pink and oranges paired with off-whites for the brides-to be soon.

Dressed in a smart black jacket and matching trousers with only tan-coloured shoes breaking the monotony, the designer duo claims to promote a healthy lifestyle which is why their designs are commonly available in sizes 8 and 10 and are priced in the range of Rs.14000 to 35000.

Dear readers of Sport&Beauty. Today we are receiving the visit of someone who has already appeared in our blog but who deserves an entire post for himself. He’s a sportsman, a football star, and one of the hottest and most desired men in the world. He’s from Portugal and throughout his career has played for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and Real Madrid. Risk a guess.... You’re right. Today I’m going to write about the life of Cristiano Ronaldo, today’s most handsome and sexiest football player. Here you are a shirtless Cristiano when playing for Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born in Madeira on October the 5th 1985 to Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro. Cristiano has an elder brother, Hugo, and two sisters, Elma and Liliana Catia. Liliana is a singer and in the Portuguese stages she’s known as Ronalda. The name of Ronaldo is relatively rare in Portugal and it seems that Cristiano was also named after the US president Ronald Reagan from whom his father was a great admirer. Cristiano Ronaldo started kicking a ball at the age of 3 and when he went to primary school his passion for football was already obvious. As a child his favourite team was Benfica Lisbon although later he would play for their rival Sporting Lisbon. At the age of 8 Cristiano started to play football for Andorinha an amateur team where is father was a kitman. By 1995 Cristiano had already become famous in Portugal and the two Madeira’s top teams, CS Maritimo and Nacional, wanted him in their ranks. Finally Nacional pulled it off but Cristiano was soon transferred to Sporting Lisbon.

Cristiano joined a bunch of Sporting’s young talented players at Alcochete, Sporting’s football factory, where he received first-class training and became the first Sporting’s player to play for the under-16, under-17, under-18 and first team within the same season. In the summer of 2003 he came to the attention of the manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, when Sporting Lisbon beat Manchester United 3 to 1 in the inauguration of the new Lisbon’s stadium Alvalade XXI. His performances in that game was so impressive that United’s players spoke to Ferguson about a possible bid to transfer Ronaldo from Sporting to Manchester United. Manchester United would finally sign Cristiano for a fee of £12.24 million. The fact that David Beckham was poised to depart to Real Madrid speeded the negotiatons considerably. Since his arrival in Machester Cristiano wore the number 7 on his shirt, a number that belonged to some of the greatest United legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona or David Beckham.

When in the pitch Cristiano is quite often in a bad mood. He’s been sent off several times for different reasons: unsporting gestures to rival’s supporters (Benfica’s supporters received a one-fingered gesture during a Champions League game), pushing rivals in the throat or hitting then with his head. Perhaps the most famous incident took place during the quarterfinal of the 2006 World Cup between England and Portugal where Cristiano got involved in Rooney’s sending-off by complaining aggressively to the referee. After this incident this popularity dropped a little. Cristiano moved to Spain's giant Real Madrid where he is by far the highest-paid player of the team. Don’t worry, the one trying to console Cristiano is Luiz Felipe Scolari the coach of the Portuguese national team. Are there any volunteers amongst the girls to help him?

Out of the pitch Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t go unnoticed. He’s a fashion icon and in 2005 participated in the ad campaign for Pepe Jeans alongside model Jessica Simpson. Cristiano has opened his own boutique with the name of CR7 in his hometown of Funchal on the Island of Madeira selling t-shirts and jeans for men and clothing, handbags, necklaces and belts for women. Cristiano has entrusted his sisters to run the business.

About his love affairs no doubt that Cristiano is the number one. In addition to numerous parties and flirts he’s also had some more or less well known love stories so far. What is true is that all her girlfriends have something in common. He seems to like big-breasted girls. According to British newspapers Cristiano Ronaldo started a relationship with British actress Gemma Atkinson in January 2007. Although Cristiano was apparently dating Gemma for almost 7 months there are no pictures of the “alleged” couple together. This led some people to think that Gemma Atkinson made up the story to boost her career.

Before starting his relationship with Gemma, Ronaldo dated a sexy Portuguese model named Merche Romero. Merche was quite a bit older than Cristiano. By the time they started seeing each other Merche was 30 years old. An experienced woman that now conducts a show on Portuguese TV.

Alter breaking up with Gemma, Cristiano was photographed kissing Bipasha Basu (an Indian star from Bollywood) during the World’s Seven Wonders show held in Lisbon. Back in India Bipasha said everything was a misunderstanding and that the picture had been taken from the wrong angle. Looking at the picture I wouldn't be that sure.

Cristiano met Mirella Grisales at a party in Miami and both started a relationship that only his professional commitments were able to cool. After that, Mirella, a Colombian bombshell, posed half-naked for the Spanish magazine Interviu and said that she captivated Cristiano with her butt. After Mirella the Portuguese dated a Spanish girl, a gorgeous one by the way. She was Nereida Gallardo a girl from Majorca that was studying to become a dietist and combined her studies with her work as a nurse in a center for the elderly. Nereida y Cristiano met at the beginning of the year 2008 in Majorca, Nereida’s hometown, and it seems they had a very close relationship. So much so that if it wasn’t for Cristiano’s commitments, that force him to travel from one country to another, it could be said they were inseparable. Se was often spotted in the stands supporting Cristiano and he used to send her kisses when scoring a goal. In the event that something could go wrong sooner than expected and wishing to make some money, Nereida appeared on the pages of the Spanish magazine Interviu as Mirella did before. The affair didn't last for long and after breaking with Nereida Cristiano was said to be dating Letizia Filippi.

In the Summer of 2009 Cristiano Ronaldo was seen in a disco accompanied by Paris Hilton and a rumour was spread that they were enganged in a relationship. After that it was said that Cristiano was involved in an affair with American socialite Kim Kardashian but currently he seems to have found love with Russian model Irina Shayk. Things are in full swing for Cristiano and Irina and it seems they will soon get married but nothing can be said taking into account Ronaldo's love backgrounds. Best Regards.

Peep my polish. The shade is Diamond Life from NARS Spring 2012 collection. Sade’s 1984 debut album inspired this metallic violet lacquer.

Believe it or not, I achieved this opacity with just one coat of polish. It took almost no time at all to dry (a huge bonus when you're multitasking and as busy as I am) and I've been getting compliments on my mani all week.

Mario Dedivanovic NYC Makeup Workshop Recap

Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to attend Mario Dedivanovic's first NYC makeup workshop.

Mario is one of the most sought-after makeup artists in the world and is the wizard behind Kim Kardashian's flawless face. His celebrity clientele also includes Natasha Bedingfield, Eliza Dushku, Michelle Williams, Amanda Bynes, Gina Gershon and many others.

Over the course of the five hour seminar, Mario worked his makeup magic, demonstrating how to create a red carpet look - with singer/actress Adrienne Bailon acting as his model. Mario also answered the attendees burning beauty questions, like he does here in his Makeup Mondays with Mario column, and shared his expert techniques. And being the sweetheart that he is, he posed for photos with all of the workshop participants.

That's me in the back, furiously taking notes.

Strike a pose....there's nothing to it...VOGUE!

For those of you who didn't attend, you really missed out. Luckily, I took nine pages of copious notes and here are some gems:

* Mario cleans his makeup brushes with Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo.

* His favorite foundations include Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Airbrush Foundation.

* When setting foundation with powder, use a velour puff.

* When filling in the eyebrows, you should always go darker on the outside of the brow. This visually lifts and makes eyes look wider set.

* Mario loves Sigma Beauty's Blending Brush #25 to define the eye crease.

* "Making a client feel comfortable is as important than the quality of the work," Mario said. "If a client doesn't feel comfortable, they won't book you again."

* Kim Kardashian's makeup can take up to 2 hours, whereas her sister Kourtney likes her makeup to be done in 20 minutes or less.

* Mario's favorite highlighter is one that he custom blended himself. "EYE M GLAM is a sheer highlighting powder that will give you the most gorgeous, golden glow. Using GIELLA mineral pigments, I custom blended EYE M GLAM while sitting on the floor in my apartment one evening, determined to come up with the best highlighter." Use it under the brows, on cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose and anywhere else you want to define bone structure. Soon, Giella will be releasing Lip Glam - a peachy golden gloss that Mario mixed to be like EYE M GLAM for lips.

* Mario's favorite liquid eyeliner is MAC Liquid Eye Liner "because it doesn't dry glossy - it dries matte."

* When applying powder cosmetics with brushes, don't pull and drag - it will just smear and ruin your base. Instead, press the bristles into the skin. And don't load up the brush with product. Less is always best because you can add more, if necessary. If you accidentally apply too much, you may have to wipe it off and start over again.

* L'Oreal Voluminous and Lancome Hypnose Drama are Mario's go-to mascaras.

* For false fringe, Mario and Adrienne both love Ardell's #116 lashes. Mario told the workshop attendees that the trick to full and lush-looking false lashes is to layer them. On Adrienne, Mario applied a full strip of the #116 lashes; once dry, he layered a half strip of the #116 on the outer corner of each eye. Once the second layer is dry, draw a line of eyeliner at the base of the lashes - to mask the line. Then curl lashes and apply a coat of mascara to "marry" your real lashes with the false ones and make them appear more natural.

* When applying concealer under the eyes, Mario takes it to a whole nuther level. Using a brush, he applies a cream concealer (that is 2 shades lighter than your skin tone) under each eye - in the shape of an inverted triangle. The bottom tip of the triangle should be mid-cheek, at the level of your nostril. Then layer a liquid concealer on top of the cream concealer (Mario likes Make Up For Ever Lift Concelaer). Then blend...blend...blend, girl - using the ultimate beauty tool, the beautyblender sponge.

* When you're finished your makeup, apply MAC Fix+ to set everything. Mario said, "The silicone in it makes all of the makeup look more natural."

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel Stewardesses Flaunt Periwinkle, Tulle and Mohawks

Karl Lagerfeld never ceases to amaze. Chanel's Spring-Summer 2012 show for Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday was nothing short of remarkable. Only Lagerfeld could effortlessly blend periwinkle, tulle and mohawks.

The Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week blended the styles of femininity and androgynous, retro and modern. Lagerfeld turned his models into stewardesses.

Tuesday's show took plane on the set of an airplane. Mastermind Lagerfeld created an entire jet plane upon which to feature his Spring-Summer 2012 collection. The plane was erected over five days in the Grand Palais. Guests were told they would be sitting in "throne-like" seats. Guests were served via drink carts as they watched models and drifting clouds float past. The blue carpet was patterned with the iconic Chanel monogram.

The line flaunts over 150 shades of blue, according to New York Times writer Cathy Horyn. Lagerfeld wanted his collection to echo the style of airline attendant uniforms. The mohawks were clearly part of a more modern interpretation.

"I didn't want to make it too literal, " said Lagerfeld backstage. "If you look at what air hostesses really wore back in the '60s, it wasn't that great."

There were 60 outfits in total. Sharp shoulders, tulle, detailed collars, beading, tweed, drop-waist dresses and broaches glided own the glorified airplane aisle.

It was a stunning rendition of the friendly skies. Lagerfeld style.

There's a downside to designers showcasing beautiful fabric in all it's glory... it can get rather heavy.

When Stephane Rolland's muse-of-the-day - former supermodel Yasmin Le Bon - took to the catwalk wearing the Paris Fashion Week show's final look, she needed two assistants to help her get the gown down the runway.

The, literally show-stopping, red silk jersey dress - with assorted lacquered metal panels on the bustier and down the front of the skirt - weighs 50 kilos (110 pounds)... probably almost as much as Yasmin herself weighs.

At its longest point, the fabric on the dress was 45 metres long.
But the two good-looking assistants showcased the train at its best by artfully arranging it around the model's feet.

Elsewhere in the show, models wore gowns in a strict palette of red, lime green, black and ivory.
The cuts were kept simple, but highly-sculptural, showing off beautiful silhouettes and, more importantly, fabric in its purest form.

Rolland's spring-summer haute couture offering was inspired by the work of kinetic artist Michel Deverne, and his floor-sweeping gowns were kept ultra-simple to show off the movement of the materials.

Diane Kruger and Salma Hayek, along with society maven and sister of the late Jackie Onassis, Lee Radziwill, made for an exclusive guest list at Giambattista Valli's couture show in Paris today.

Held at the Hotel de Crillon, the spring/summer collection was only the second couture offering from the Italian designer.

Mr Valli delivered a confident offering though, with lace flowers, layers of chiffon and rivers of light-reflecting, shimmery sequins on both ballgowns and knee-length cocktail dresses.

The designer used a palette of that was predominantly monochrome, set off by flashes of colour in shades of pinks from the softest blossom to deep fuschia and plums.

While block colours dominated, Mr Valli also made way for blurs of floral prints and everything was softened with textures, such as polka-dotted chiffon or stiffened wool.

Belted waists gave structure to billowing gowns, many of which featured over-sized ruffles and bows around the neckline.

Mr Valli's wearable cocktail dresses came with romantic overlays of seductive lace as well as clustered of embroidered silk flowers and pretty belts.

Mr Valli was only recently admitted into the elite Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Last year, he made his couture debut as a 'guest label'.

He joins an illustrious group of designers taking part in the biannual event, among them fellow Italians Valentino, Armani Prive and Atelier Versace, which returned for the first time in eight years.

The only major French labels that are scheduled to show this year are Chanel, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and Givenchy, although several newer design houses are taking part.

The garments will be bought by a small and extremely selective (read, very wealthy) clientele based mainly in China, Russia, the Middle East, as well as North and South America.

The one-off, hand-crafted creations can sell for $40,000 or to over $100,000 for a wedding dress.

Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel and Sarah Jessica Parker have all worn couture gowns by Mr Valli on the red carpet. And there is no doubt we will see plenty more as the awards season progresses.

Sonam Kapoor has just scored another fashion triumph - a personal invite has landed for her from top-notch French designer Jean Paul Gaultier - for his show on January 25.

Sonam made her impressive style debut at the Cannes International Film Festival last year in a Gaultier gown.

Prachi Badve A Twelve-year-old has designs on Kareena

If four-year-olds can turn catwalk queens, then who says a pre-teen can’t design an entire clothing line? Twelve-year-old Prachi Badve, who first raised eyebrows by participating at the Pune Fashion Week at the age of nine, made her Mumbai debut at the recently-concluded India Kids Fashion Week.

“Teachers would complain that her grades were dropping because her notebooks were filled with sketches of dresses,” mom Pooja recalls.

The family finances Prachi’s collections, shelling out huge participation fees for the various fashion weeks. “We were worried about spending that kind of money on such a young child, but I reasoned that if she wanted to be a doctor, we would have invested about Rs 50 lakh in her education anyway,” says Pooja.

And if you thought that she was all talent, no technique, Prachi has already completed a diploma course in fashion designing at the Vidyanchal Institute in her native Pune. “After my first fashion week, there were lots of offers to study at various institutes. The schedule here matched my school timings, so I chose this,” she explains.

But the pre-teen, who wants to be the “most established designer in the world and dress Kareena Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan one day”, snaps at any question of her parents’ involvement. “I don’t know why people keep asking whether my parents are forcing me to do this, or if my mother designs the clothes and I take credit. No one in my family is involved in fashion,” she protests.

Her mother adds, “All 65 garments that she’s designed so far are lying in my house. I don’t want people to think I’m using my daughter to set up a business. I’m just helping build her brand. Once she’s old enough, she can turn professional.”

Hong Kong fashion week 2012 models on ramp

Hong Kong Fashion Week 2012 Fall/Winter has shifted its focus to design from the earlier emphasis on quality manufacturing. This is in tune with the Hong Kong government’s policy to promote “creative industries.”

Around 1,900 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions are displaying the latest fashion in apparels and accessories at this year’s Fashion Week, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

“World Boutique” remains the key design-focused event at the 10th edition of the Hong Kong Fashion Week, which concludes on January 19, 2012.

During the week, latest collections of four globally renowned fashion designers – Shanghai’s Qi Gang, London’s Craig Lawrence, Hong Kong’s Hidy Ng and Paris’s Risto Bimbiloski – were launched.

The fashion event introduced few upcoming designers from Hong Kong to international buyers, including Bendy Woo, Hin Lee and Cecilia Yau.

Supermodel next generation: Crawford daughter fronts Young Versace

Following on from the launch of Young Versace's first store in Milan last month, the brand has unveiled its new advertising campaign with supermodel Cindy Crawford's 10-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber as the face.

Modeling designs adorned with the label's iconic Greek key motif, Gerber was shot by acclaimed fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who have previously worked on campaigns for the likes of Gucci and Givenchy.

According to the fashion house's creative director Donatella Versace, Gerber proved she has inherited her famous mother's talent when modeling the collection, which is aimed at youngsters aged 0-12.

"Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift," she explained in a release. "The camera really, really loves her.

"Having Cindy on-set for the shoot took me back to all the amazing Avedon shoots we worked on together. It was such a special treat watching Kaia walk in her mother's footsteps!"

Gerber, who is Crawford's daughter with former model Rande Gerber, is the latest in a recent spate of youngsters emerging as fashion's next generation.

Earlier this month designer Meg Matthews tweeted a photograph of her and British rocker Noel Gallagher's 11-year-old daughter Anais captured by Mario Testino. London-based Anais is signed with Select Model Management, and has already modeled for Paul Smith Junior. See her in the label's Autumn/Winter 2010 campaign here.

Other emerging faces for the future include Kate Moss's half-sister Lottie, who caught the world's attention as one of the bridesmaids at the supermodel's wedding back in July. Fashion warning for anyone planning an appearance at Royal Ascot's Royal Enclosure this summer in Britain: New rules require women to wear hats, not fascinators.

Fascinators, for the fashion-challenged, are a cross between a hair accessory and mini-hat, and can tend toward the outrageous.

Strapless or spaghetti-strap tops and dresses are also banned this year and men must wear a suit and tie, the BBC reports.

And no, repeat no, short dresses.

The week-long, super-elite horse racing event was made famous to American moviegoers in My Fair Lady when a very proper, elegantly dressed Eliza Doolittle/Audrey Hepburn reverted to her lower-class demeanor as the horse crossed the finish line.

The race, which draws some 300,00 visitors every June, is a highlight of the British social calendar and organizers have been fighting to control the proliferation of provocative dresses, outrageous accessories and revealing tops, the Associated Press reports.

The Royal Enclosure is the inner-circle of the inner-circle and offers the best views in the grandstand.

Organizers posted the revised dress code for 2012 today in a move to restore formality, the BBC says.

"It is probably fair to say the dress code hasn't necessarily been enforced quite as rigorously as we might have liked," says Ascot spokesman Nick Smith, the BBC reports. "There is no doubt our customers would like to get back to a situation where it is universally acknowledged this is a formal occasion and not an occasion where you might dress as you would at a nightclub."

Here's an excerpt from the new dress code, in the original English:

Ladies are kindly reminded that formal day wear is a requirement in the Royal Enclosure, defined as follows:

* Dresses and skirts should be of modest length defined as falling just above the knee or longer;
* Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or greater;
* Jackets and pashminas may be worn but dresses and tops underneath should still comply with the Royal Enclosure dress code;
* Trouser suits are welcome. They should be of full length and of matching material and colour;
* Hats should be worn; a headpiece which has a base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat.
* Ladies are kindly asked to note the following:
* Strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch (2.5cm) are not permitted;
* Midriffs must be covered;
* Fascinators are no longer permitted in the Royal Enclosure; neither are headpieces which do not have a base covering a sufficient area of the head (4 inches / 10cm).

Gentlemen are kindly reminded that it is a requirement to wear either black or gray morning dress which must include:

* A waistcoat and tie (no cravats); and
* A black or grey top hat; and
* Black shoes.
* A gentleman may remove his top hat within a restaurant, a private box, a private club or that facility's terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden.
* The customisation of top hats (with, for example, coloured ribbons or bands) is not permitted in the Royal Enclosure.

Tradition is out of fashion, says Shobana

“When did I say I will not act in Malayalam?” asks Shobana, days before she is to perform her two-and-a-half hour performance on Krishna at JTPac in Kochi.

That must be music to the ears of filmmakers as well as film lovers in Kerala who have been missing her since the early 90s when she started concentrating on dance, accepting only one film per year or none at all.

“But the TV channels have been playing my films all the time,” she says, with a laugh.

Her favourites? “Yathra, Thenmavin Kombathu and that Jayaram film…” Is I>Manichithrathazhu, in which she played a schizophrenic caught between the past and present and won the national award, not in the list?

“Unlike dance, films are a collaborative effort. I was young while Pachikka (director Fazil) and others perhaps knew they were making a classic. Mohan Lal and Suresh Gopi supported me well.”
The actress, who has her roots in Thiruvananthapuram dispels the impression that she is in some kind of a self-imposed exile in Chennai.

“You make it sound as though I am living in America. I come to Kerala four times a year for my performances. My relatives keep visiting me and I visit them too. I have Malayalis among the staff here (in her dance school) and I remain a Malayali in mind and spirit.”

She recently completed her work in a Tamil film Poda Podi where she plays, what else, a dancer.

She is excited as she talks about the forthcoming show in Kochi.

“Bharatanatyam is always about God but being a performer, it is story telling that is more important than the religious aspect. Krishna is an international icon. I took him because there were a lot of questions about him in my mind. These questions formed over the years while listening to the bhajans, Geetha Govindam or kathaprasangams. There is the butter and clothes stealing Krishna and then there is the sensual aspect. So, this performance is the product of my attempt to write a story with different aspects in mind.”

One of the aspects she tries to throw light on is that of Krishna as a negotiator. “Most people comment on how beautiful it is and how colourful the costumes are. But I don’t know how far people understand the nuances.

For instance, I have touched upon how Krishna is a lover of peace throughout Mahabharata. When he comes to negotiate with the Kauravas, people expect him to come with his entire army and other regalia. But he arrives without any of that, accompanied only by Garuda.

” The sound design of the show is by Resul Pookutty while the voice overs for the characters are by Surya, Shabana Azmi, Prabhu, Radhika, Konkona Sen and Nandita Das. Is her style puritan or experimental? “Innovation is tomorrow’s tradition.

It is no longer in fashion to be traditional. Tradition is what your teachers taught you. If you ask about this particular performance, it is not a classical dance but can be called a classic,” she signs off.

The length and color of your hair tells the world who you are.” Smith shared her tips for getting glam this New Year’s Eve, hair looks to try in 2012, and the biggest mistakes that women make with their hair—all while keeping professional women, short on time, in mind.

New Year’s Eve Glam:

“Getting glam for New Year’s Eve shouldn’t take too much effort,” says Smith. “I always take the attitude that less is best. Don’t make it look as though you’ve spent hours in front of your bathroom mirror. Hair Color Disasters:

But on Sunday (Jan. 15) at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, Zooey just went way too retro and a little bit too far with hair that called to mind nothing so much as a mud-flap girl and -- it has to be said -- we're not convinced it's even her real hair. There's just something suspicious about those side curls and the lack of the part that scream "wig" or maybe "fall."

Zooey's dress, on the other hand, was stunning. A custom Prada black gown with lime-green beading on the torso. She would've been a total best-dressed candidate if it weren't for the mop top.

It's the first award ceremony of the season and the opportunity for Hollywood to make a serious fashion statement.

But tonight stars shied away from colour, stepping out instead in pale, cool and snow-inspired hues for a series of white hot looks.

Charlize Theron wore one of the most dramatic dresses of the evening and her Dior couture gown set the tone for the plethora of stars stepping out in light-coloured ensembles.

The 36-year-old actress looked incredible in the plunging gown which boasted a thigh high split, a flowing train and an oversized bow detail wrapped around her waist.

Charlize was not the only starlet stepping out in a pale dresse with Elle Macpherson, Kate Beckinsale and Nicole Kidman among those also showing off the trend.

Australian supermodel Elle decided to dress in a statement white Zac Posen gown with a layered fishtail skirt.

The strapless gown showed off her figure to perfection and she accessorised the dress with a series of chunky metallic cuffs stacked up her arm.

The 47-year-old also revealed some of her fitness secrets as she made her way up the red carpet and said she likes to keep active to maintain her shape.

'I think it's really important to put some time aside to do some physical exercise to feel good. I do sport, I surf, I waterski, I ride horses, I do what I can, I mix it up.'

Katy Perry is in the popular clique now. The singer-actress won the most People's Choice Awards at Wednesday's 38th annual fan-favourite extravaganza. Perry, who was absent from the ceremony, was honoured in five categories, including favourite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for E.T. with Kanye West, music video for Last Friday Night, and TV guest star for How I Met Your Mother.

Perry told fans on Twitter earlier this week that she wouldn't attend the show but that "I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!" Actor Russell Brand filed for divorce from Perry last month.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the final installment of the magical film series starring Daniel Radcliffe, followed behind Perry with four wins for favourite movie, action movie, book adaptation and ensemble movie cast, but the film's stars also weren't present at the ceremony, leaving more time on the CBS broadcast for winners in other categories.

Ellen DeGeneres, Nina Dobrev, Chloe Grace Moretz, Adam Levine, Lea Michele and Demi Lovato, who performed Give Your Heart A Break, were among the winners on hand to accept their awards selected by internet votes.

"For all the Rachel Berrys out there, this one's for you guys," said Michele.

Emma Stone and Johnny Depp — another no-show — won two trophies at the ceremony, which was hosted by The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco. Narciso Rodriguez a fashion designer known for his sleek, modern designs and use of clean colors. I am an admirer of both of their work!

Stormy weather is a shade that Deborah Lippmann created with Narciso Rodriguez for his Fall 2011 show. It is a deep granite creme shade, that is unlike any color I have seen on the market. As a fan of dark and unexpected nail polish, I had to have this color. I was very excited when it appeared in my Christmas stocking, and could not wait to get some time for a manicure.

This is a great quality polish. It went on smoothly, and looked exactly like it did in the bottle. Above is a shot of two coats of the polish.

Then, it was time to play. After admiring matte effect nails for a long time, I finally purchased my own matte topcoat. I chose OPI for Sephora ($9.50). Here is a shot of Stormy Weather and a matte topcoat.

When singer Kelly Rowland stepped out on the red carpet for the X Factor UK press launch, her wedge booties grabbed eyeballs. JLo, Ashley Greene and Taylor Swift are self-confessed lovers of the chunky heels. Back home, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Genelia D’Souza and Dia Mirza are also flaunting them.

The comfort factor makes them very appealing. Fashion designer Prasad Bidapa feels wedges are for everyone, “Wedges look wonderful. Girls always like looking tall and this footwear is also casual enough for everyday use. Unlike stilettos, they support the foot better. Wedges are best suited for daywear and might not work for an evening outing, unless designed in a particular way. They suit any body type, though.” Shoes in metallic hues, particularly in gold and gilver are also trendy. “The must-haves this season are black stilettos and nude heels as they make your legs look longer, a pair of jewelled slippers that look pretty with ethnic wear and slippers that have a silver-gold colour,” he adds.

The versatility of the wedges is another reason people are queuing up to buy them. Veena Jain of One Stop Milano says, “Wedges are oh-so-comfortable. They are very stylish and can be worn with everything, right from party wear to casuals.” She recommends stilettos, wedges and knee-high boots as they are ideal for chilly weather. The fact that wedges are glamorous and comfy at the same time make them a compulsory buy for designer Neetu Gupta. “I love wedges! You can play around with the shape, add a little curve here and some colour there and make them fun. I have a multi-coloured one that is really cool. I bought several pairs of wedges this year. They are dramatic; definitely the heels of the new age,” she quips. Black wedges that are “comfortable when you have to dance long hours,” and shoes with gold and silver bling figure on her must-have list.

It was all very well for fashion icon Coco Chanel to say: ''In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.'' But it's hard to imagine her wearing clogs, for instance, when everyone else is in Miu Miu glitter pumps.

So what will fashion followers be wearing en masse in 2012? According to Cleo magazine's fashion director, Aileen Marr, there will be a mix of eras - the 1920s, '30s and '90s all get a nod - and bold colours.

''Ladylike is still strong, after years of short body-con dresses, so women will be wearing Peter Pan collars, lace, shift dresses and kitten heels,'' Marr says.

Of course, not all of it will be embraced on these shores. ''The pretty schoolgirl look sounds a bit boring, but Australians will do their own take on it, probably with shorter hemlines and skipping the cardigans for a sleeveless dress to show more skin.''

Making an appearance in the '20s-'30s theme are brogues, loafers, man-style suits for women (double-breasted jackets and double-pleated pants) and flat shoes.

Prints are here for a while - think graphic screenprints of the '90s - as well as strong colours. ''There's a '90s hip-hop feel happening and kids will be wearing oversized sweatshirts and bold message prints, like Katharine Hamnett does,'' Marr says. Why the '90s? ''Streetwise is happening, because everything else from punk to the music-festival look has been done to death.''

She predicts Australian buyers will give the bold colours a thumbs-up. ''They love colour and neon, as they're easy to wear in warm climates.''

Magdalena Velevska has married the '20s feel with neon, and the shades that will be popular are orange and teal.

The colder months will bring autumnal colours: hunter greens, pumpkin oranges and rich burgundies that will make their way even into the coloured jeans popular during summer.

Shoe-wise, platforms are on their way out, although heels are not. Women wanting to reach sky heights can still opt for stilettos, but with a more classic feel and pointy toe.

The It bag is still a box bag, started by Celine, and in accessories, women are trying to make their wrists look unique with a long mass of individual chains, via friendship or charm bracelets.

What else to look out for in 2012? Stripes, flared pants and black and white are all making some headway. Sportswear is still going strong: think motocross and hip-hop inspired. Alexander Wang used padding, mesh and stripes in his collection, while Karen Walker showed off oversized baseball caps.

High-top sneakers are back, with designers such as Lanvin and Opening Ceremony doing their own bling version.

Lace, the feminine favourite, won't just be reserved for clothes, but will turn up on accessories such as bags and shoes.

TRENDS FOR MEN

According to Arthur Galan, who designs clothes for women and men under his label Arthur Galan AG, ''Checks will be very important for men: they will be wearing check coats over check shirts to create a mix of textures. There are rich tones for men as well, in the form of precisely cut jackets in bordeaux, midnight and dark emerald.'' The must-have item for men? ''The skivvy in those winter months, for the true gentleman's look: to be worn under a jacket or shirt.'' And in men's shoes, Galan tips ''the return of the chiselled toe, with more of a pointed chisel than what we've seen in the past. The lace-up is still strong, but the ankle boot is the new item.''

TRENDS FOR WOMEN

Era: 1920s - dropped waists and luxurious dresses.

1990s - oversized T-shirts with graphic lettering.

Colours: orange, teal, red, black and white, bold.

Prints: graphic and florals.

Pants: wide legs, pleated.

Shoes: kitten heels, pointy toes, sparkly.

Fabrics: lace.
